Set on fifteen acres bordering Cutchogue Harbor in New Suffolk, The Woodland, is a timber-framed structure in a rustic, rambling, bungalow style. Although reminiscent of a ski lodge in the mountains, the house fits into its heavily wooded site, and offers panoramic views of the bay. The deep roof overhangs are framed with heavy timbers, which have been left natural, and the roof and walls are shingled with red cedar. The only painted elements on the exterior are the windows. The chimneys and foundation are faced with Pennsylvania fieldstone, and the terraces are bluestone. The principal interior spaces, including the two-story Living Room, are structured by traditional mortise and tenon heavy timber framing, which has been finished with tung oil. Ample wood trim and a deep, earthy color pallet chosen by the owner create a warm and cozy feeling, unlike that of a typical beach house. A small Den off the Living Room displays the eclectic style of the owners.
